I find it extremely difficult to believe that my son and daughter-in-law have been married for 12 years. That's one dozen!!!!!!! In fact I can't believe I'm old enough to have a son that could be married that long (but then I look in the mirror and all doubt vanishes...)
My little son; that sweet little bundle; the one that had black fuzz on his head; he's married now; he has a wife and 2 children ages 6 and almost 11. WOW!!!!
Sometimes I stop on my way past the book shelf that houses the several hundred pounds of albums and boxes full of photos and I actually take the time to look through them. It amazes me, this circle of life. Time flew. Seriously. It honestly seems like only a short while ago that we were celebrating our 10th anniversary and here it is our son's 12th. It's going to take awhile to adjust to this.
Have I learned anything during the marriage of our son? Yes.
I've learned that the hardest part of raising children is letting go.
I've learned that if I was to write a book called "How to be the perfect mother-in-law" it would be blank.
I have no idea how to be a "perfect" mother-in-law. All I know is that I love my daughter-in-law and appreciate the fact that she loves my son and has built a life with him...(and produced beautiful grand-children). I know there are ups and downs in marriages...sometimes more downs that ups. I know that it takes work, compromises, acceptance, unconditional love, more compromises, and much more work.
Add these things up and they equal something wonderful!!!!!! Congratulations on 12 years together!!!!!!
And please forgive me for not getting your anniversary card mailed on time...
